What does a vibe-manufactured part cost?

Reported bills and labelled estimates for an AI-made part: a cheap PLA test, two SendCutSend metal jobs, and a ten-board JLCPCB order.

Sources: figures already published on this site, chiefly the how-to, which cites Business Insider, plus the foldable phone pad and desk Grok Bot pages. Shop prices change. This is not a quote and not a hands-on cost study.

What vibe manufacturing is does not have a single price. The bill follows the process. The chooser is how to pick the process. The hubs are 3D printing, laser and sheet metal, and PCBs.

Three paths

Path What we can say about money What we will not invent
Home print A small PLA test “usually costs very little in filament” (how-to). The foldable phone stabilizer pad lists about 2.2 hours and 51 g of PLA on its MakerWorld card, and calls the filament a few euros at typical prices. The desk Grok Bot page cites about 55 minutes on two plates and does not state a filament weight. A dollar price per kilogram, an electricity cost, or a labour rate.
Order metal Business Insider: $156 for Jeff Deehan’s SendCutSend steel camper bracket, and about $200 for Jake Fitzgerald’s sheet-metal robot arm. Guide: AI to DXF. A universal bracket price. Material, size, bends, and shipping move the quote.
Order a PCB Business Insider: about €500 for ten JLCPCB units of Arthur Prince’s story toy. Guide: desk mute button. A price per board for your design. Ask the fab.

Tool cost is not part cost

OpenSCAD is free, as the how-to says. A chatbot or a text-to-CAD app may sit on a paid plan. That plan is yours already or it is not. It is not the cost of one clip. The software hub and the text-to-CAD comparison are where tool choice lives.

A printer is not a part

If you buy a machine, that money is not the cost of the first bracket. On 6 November 2026 the Bambu Lab US store showed $2,499 USD on the H3C page, with the H3C Combo as the first bundle listed and an estimated ship line around 30 November 2026. Regional prices change. That figure is context for “if you buy a printer,” which the multi-colour comparison and the printer page discuss. Leave it out of a one-part budget.

What a quote is allowed to include

A shop quote is material, quantity, thickness, finish, and shipping. A board-house quote is the board, the quantity, and whether parts are placed. A slicer estimate is time and, when the file says so, grams. None of those is a labour rate, a kilowatt-hour price, or a filament price per kilogram. Those are omitted here because this site has not published them.

If two quotes differ, that is normal. Deehan’s $156 bracket and Fitzgerald’s about $200 arm are two different parts. Prince’s about €500 is ten boards, not one. Do not average them into a “typical vibe-manufacturing cost.”

What to do with a number

Treat every figure above as someone else’s reported bill or as a labelled estimate. Then ask the shop, the fab, or your slicer for the current one. A quote beats a blog post. The first-print tips are how to spend the cheap test before the expensive full part. The failure list is how reprints add up when that test is skipped.

FAQ

How much does an AI 3D print cost?

Our how-to says a small PLA test print usually costs very little in filament. This page does not invent a price per kilogram. One published model on the site lists 51 g of PLA and about 2.2 hours, which is still not a shop quote.

How much did the reported metal parts cost?

Business Insider reported $156 for Jeff Deehan's steel camper bracket from SendCutSend, and about $200 for Jake Fitzgerald's sheet-metal robot arm. Those are their bills, not a current price list.

How much was the reported PCB order?

The same Business Insider article reported about €500 for ten units of Arthur Prince's story-toy boards from JLCPCB. Confirm a live quote before you order.

Does the AI tool cost extra?

It depends on the plan you already pay for. OpenSCAD, which the how-to uses to render code, is free software. A chatbot subscription is separate.

Is a new printer part of the part cost?

No. A machine is a one-time purchase. If you are pricing one bracket, do not fold a printer into that bracket.
